If there is something you want to do after Year 12 and before starting your tertiary course, deferring your studies is an option.

What is deferment?

Deferment lets you delay starting your course. Usually, you can defer for up to a year, but some institutions let you defer for longer. Others don’t allow you to defer your studies at all.

You can find out the deferment policies at various Queensland tertiary providers on the QTAC website.

Common reasons for deferment

  • Travel
  • Illness
  • Saving money to pay for a course
  • Helping out a friend or family member
  • Taking advantage of job opportunities
  • Not getting into the course you want

How to defer?

In most cases, you can defer when you respond to your QTAC offer. The tertiary provider will contact you to advise what to do next.
