Padua College, Brisbane
Former Padua student Karl Garufi is living the dream. A natural affinity for dealing with people has laid the groundwork for a promising career in real estate.
‘I never really knew what I wanted to do after I left school but one day Dad suggested real estate because I am good with people,’ Karl said.
‘I didn’t think I was smart enough and thought I’d need to go to university, but after work experience with a local agency, I’ve never looked back.’
After starting in the suburban market, Karl is now working as a Sales Consultant at a luxury inner-city developer.
Karl is driven by a love of learning and completed several VET qualifications as part of his senior studies.
He also loved helping to build the school spirit and considered his role as a pastoral care leader as an honour and privilege.
His respect for positive role models has influenced his career path.
‘I’ve had some fantastic role models — my parents, family and employers. My first boss took a chance and placed his faith in me and I’m forever grateful.’
Karl’s advice to this year’s school leavers: ‘Don’t be afraid. I was scared of leaving school because it was all I knew. You’ve just got to take a leap of faith — sometimes the best things are the unexpected things.
