Alex Leybourne dreams of a career in the creative industries and his talents have already been noticed.
In 2015 he received a Creative Generation Excellence Award for his video artwork ‘Heart’ which was displayed at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.
‘Art and Film, Television & New Media were my favourite subjects at school — I really enjoyed the creativity and expressing myself through different mediums,’ he said.
Now studying a Bachelor of Film and Screen Media Production at Griffith University, Alex also works part-time as an in-house media producer for a health company.
‘It’s satisfying to work with like-minded people and gain valuable industry experience.
‘I hope to keep building my skills and ultimately work in film production.’
Alex credits the support of his family, friends and teachers in helping him to achieve his goals.
Alex’s advice to school leavers: Year 12 seems like a really long, hard year, but the results will be worth it.

Career goal: To become a special effects editor with a film company.
